Open Banking affordability checks for lenders and credit unions
Verify income, affordability and surplus from a customer's real bank data across 23 UK banks, with up to 7 years of history. Credit Canary provides the regulated access, so you don't need your own Open Banking permission.
What is Open Banking?
Open Banking is a UK framework, created under PSD2 and the CMA's order on the nine largest banks (CMA9), that lets a customer give an FCA-authorised provider secure, consent-based access to their bank data (via an AISP) or permission to initiate a payment (via a PISP). Access is explicit, time-limited and revocable. Read the full definition.
Credit Canary connects to 23 UK banks to retrieve account details, balances, and up to 7 years of transaction history, with the customer's explicit consent. Every transaction is automatically categorised, enriched with 1,000s of risk flags, and validated against external sources. The result is a structured data pipeline for affordability analysis, income verification and collections.
Whether you need a simple bank statement view, a fully enriched data pipeline with income detection and gambling flags, or embeddable modules for your existing platform, Open Banking through Credit Canary gives you all three. Personal and business accounts supported.
Aggregator or decisioning layer?
Open Banking aggregators such as TrueLayer, Yapily and Tink give you the bank connection and the raw data. Credit Canary is the decisioning layer on top: it can use that connectivity and turns the data into an affordability decision.
| Aggregator TrueLayer, Yapily, Tink | Credit Canary Decisioning layer | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | A regulated connection to the banks and raw transaction data | The connection plus a lending decision |
| Categorisation & enrichment | You build it | Categorised transactions, income detection, surplus and risk flags built in |
| Affordability output | Your own models on top | Income, surplus and affordability signals out of the box |
| If a connection fails | Handle it yourself | PDF bank-statement fallback included |
| Where it sits | Data layer | Decisioning layer on top of Open Banking connectivity |
